Why do we need foster homes?

So that we can take dogs that are waiting to travel to their new homes out of the shelters as soon as possible. This is helpful for the dog to get it used to being in a home environment and makes space for the shelter to take in another dog in need.

We do not normally foster dogs that do not have a definite home to go to. It is not good for a dog's psychological wellbeing to be taken out of a shelter and then returned to it.

If a dog is going abroad there is a time interval between the chosen dog finding a home and being ready to travel. This time interval results from the varying needs of countries with regard to vaccinations etc.

It means that we can tell you, our foster family, approximately how long you will keep the dog - from a minimum of 3 weeks to a maximum of 7 months for those dogs travelling to the United Kingdom, Sweden or Ireland.

We will make a reasonable contribution to the costs of fostering.
